The Gorropu is a huge canyon that originated from a tectonic shift and was later eroded by weather and a river streaming through it. Its 400m high cliffs are extraordinarily beautiful.
Your adventure will start in Cala Gonone or Dorgali and you will be driven through the valley of Oddoene in a 4×4 vehicle. After crossing the “Flumineddu” river, the vehicle will continue along an off-road route, characterized by dense vegetation, dominated by holm-oak, strawberry trees and wild “Mediterranean” flora.
Inside the gorge, the excursion follows the dry riverbed of the river that nowadays mainly flows underground, emerging only occasionally at its original source. The route increases in difficulty at the final part of the gorge. There you can explore the most interesting part, where the cliffs reach their highest altitude. Packed lunch is included. Actual walking time is 3.5 hours.
Departure is at 9.00 and return is at approximately 16.00. Participants should wear hiking shoes and bring a back pack and a bottle of water. The excursion will run with a minimum of four people, therefore you may need to be flexible with dates in the low season.
